Translating Classics and Scriptural Reasoning: Review of the 7th Summer Institute on Theology and Humanities

Abstract:
The Seventh Summer Institute on Theology & Humanities was held in Beijing from August 3-7 2011. This Summer Institute was co-sponsored by The School of Liberal Arts of Renmin University of China, The Institute for the Study of Christian Culture of Renmin University of China, and the Hong Kong Institute of Sino-Christian Studies. The theme of the 7th Summer Institute was “Translating Classics and Scriptural Reasoning”. Nine distinguished scholars from Renmin University of China, the Slavic Academy of Social Sciences, University of Zurich, the University of Tokyo, the Taiwan Theological Seminary, the Taiwan Chung Yuan Christian University, and the University of Newcastle in Australia attended the Summer Institute and gave lectures to young Chinese scholars from universities across China as well as students from Qinghai Normal University. About forty young teachers from more than 30 universities throughout China submitted papers and participated in the Summer Institute. This paper is a summary of the lectures delivered by the scholars from home and abroad, and tries to present the main themes, content and significance of the Summer Institute.
