Liberal Arts, Classical Studies and Theology: Review of the 8th Summer Institute on Theology and Humanities

Abstract:
The Eighth Summer Institute on Theology & Humanities was held in Suzhou from August 28-31, 2012. The Summer Institute was co-sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts of Renmin University of China, the Institute for the Study of Christian Culture of Renmin University of China, United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, and the Hong Kong Institute of Sino-Christian Studies. The theme of the 8th Summer Institute was “Liberal Arts, Classical Studies and Theological Resources”. Ten distinguished scholars from University of Newcastle (AUS), University of St Andrews (UK), University of Glasgow (UK), Lafayette College (USA), University of Stirling (UK), Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chung Yuan Christian University, Peking University, and Renmin University of China attended the Summer Institute and gave lectures to young Chinese scholars from universities across China. Nearly 50 young teachers from more than 30 universities submitted papers and participated in it. This paper is a review of the lectures delivered by the scholars from home and abroad, and tries to present the main themes, content and significance of the Summer Institute.
