Abstract:
Mystical theology in the thought of Pseudo-Dionysius is often subject to misunderstanding. This article beginsby clarifying Dionysian mysticism through an analysis of the terminology of "mystical" and "theology" in the text, then anchors Dionysian mysticism in three dimensions: scripture, in the seeking of deeper meaning beneath the Scriptural words; liturgy, in the segregated settings of church and liturgy; and spirituality, in union with God through spiritual contemplation. Through this analysis it attempts to demonstrate how scriptural exegesis and liturgical participation have shaped Dionysian theology, and how his theology reflects the contemplation of various biblical and ecclesiastical symbols.
Keywords:
Pseudo-Dionysius, mysticism, hiddenness, spirituality.
