Abstract:
This article begins with a critical examination of the concept of "world-image" (Weltbild) proposed by Heidegger in 1938. In Heidegger's view, the modern world is grasped as an image, dominated by the logic of subject-object opposition, and an antidote must be sought for this toxic image. However, Heidegger's judgment regarding the intellectual history of this concept is flawed and insufficient. The concept of world-image originates with Paul. Through Erich Auerbach's figura method and Walter Benjamin's historical-materialist method, we find repeated rewriting of the relevant Pauline passage. Beyond philosophy, these two scholars' methods offer a pathway to activate the world-image and bring it to life.
