Abstract:

In the separation and reconnection of art and religion, Schleiermacher proposed for the first time the concept of "Kunstreligion". By dividing art into a cosmic art that makes the world and a concrete art which is the work, Schleiermacher clarifies the relationship between art and religion. "Kunstreligion" is neither "religious art" that suppresses art, nor the "new myth" or "new religion" that replaces religion with aesthetics. In Schleiermacher's view, religion is the action of an "inner consciousness" associated with intuition and emotion, in which process, art, through the "sensory perception" of "human nature", feels the infinite and intuits the universe, successfully realizing a "religious art". Also in this process, art, through the "feeling" of "humanity", experiences the infinite and intuitively perceives the universe, successfully externalizing the "inner consciousness" of religion. Despite Schleiermacher's attempt to make art serve religion, he further deepened the concept of art and promoted the concept of art centered on human beings and humanity.
