Abstract:
In the history of the Swiss Reformation, Zurich and Geneva stand out prominently. The Bernese Reformation, however, played a pivotal role during the shift of the center of gravity of the Swiss Reformation from Zurich to Geneva. Under various internal and external influences, Bern embraced the Reformation, with Zwingli's influence standing out as a significant factor, reflecting the Reformation's expansion from Zurich to Bern. Bern became the backbone of the Swiss Reformation movement, and in the subsequent process of expanding into French-speaking western Switzerland, made important contributions to the expansion of the Reformation. The early Reformation in Geneva benefited from Bern's support, and Bern laid the foundation for Calvin's achievement, reflecting the process of expansion of the Reformation from Bern to Geneva. The Bernese Reformation served as a bridge, linking up the history of the Swiss Reformation, and reflecting the interplay between theological thought and political-military affairs within the history of the Reformation.
