To Transcend Existence and To Reach Eternity: A Christian Metaphysics of Time in Faulkner's Novels Author: WANG Gang, Lecturer, Jilin Normal

Abstract:

The artistic expression of the metaphysics of time is an important theme in the novels of William Faulkner. In recent studies, however, critics have often neglected the deeper religious dimensions to Faulkner’s metaphysics of time. By examining Faulkner’s metaphysics of time in the general context of Christian culture and of Calvinist religious traditions, new interpretations and a deeper meaning to cultural poetics emerge. In the course of the exploration we also touch on the organic connections and structural relationships between humanity and the world.
